Enough Already

I mean really. Jesus would be royally pissed right now. He hung out with beggars and ne'er do wells, not pretentious opinionated bigots who have nothing but hate and contempt for those different from them. Jesus fought against narrow-minded bigots or am I wrong? What say you?

To be clear, I am an atheist, but I believe Jesus existed as a man who tried to change the world. I truly believe he tried to tie all faiths together. He traveled east and brought back knowledge and faith of a different kind that was initially rejected and then accepted by the establishment to be used as a means of controlling the masses like all religions have been.

How does the saying go? . . . "I don't have a problem with Jesus. It's his fan club I can't stand."

you're right, it is a "club". One of my friends refer to church folk as "carnies". They set up, put on a show, pass the hat around and next Sunday they do it all over again. Granted, many churches have done great things for the community and I know a great deal of "church folk" that are genuine Christians. I think we can both agree though that its the hard-core evangelicals we are talking about here are the bad apples.

Nice blog Ben :)

Just my two bits tho, this issue runs a a lot deeper than simple bigotry and intolerance.

Aside from the religious impact, a lot of people simply feel the truths they hold sacred is being changed just because people can, and the fact that the legislature is threatening to overturn a popular vote is being viewed as government dictating policy and highly unconstitutional, its a good thing the supreme court threw that out the window.

As far as the carnie comment, 90% of the churches doesn't have a congregation larger than 150 people, and most are quite humble. The church I belong to is more akin to a tight knit family, and have helped me through some very tough times in my life. For being a poor little church we frequently send people on missions all over the world to help feed, train, and educate folks on vocational and academic subjects...I'm thinking about going on a mission next year myself...

Anyway, the thing is, both sides really have to come to a compromise through some type of civil forum, anger and the radical elements on both sides really doesn't help matters.

One thing I know for sure, an absolute decision favoring either side won't work here (else we wouldn't have this problem), asking people to compromise their moral/spiritual beliefs will for surely fall on deaf ears. A middle ground is required here.
